Regional Training Course on Identifying Sources and Transboundary Transport of Pollutants

Under the patronage of H.E. Dr Khaled Toukan, Chairman of the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission, a regional training course on “Identifying Sources and Transboundary Transport of Pollutants, with a Focus on Aerosol Sampling and Analysis” commenced today. The course is organized by the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), under the framework of the Cooperative Agreement for Arab States in Asia for Research, Development and Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology (ARASIA).

The course brings together 16 participants from seven Arab countries and aims to strengthen scientific and technical capacities in the collection and analysis of particulate matter samples, identification of pollution sources, and assessment of the transboundary transport of pollutants.

Participants are receiving practical training on a range of analytical techniques used in the Commission’s laboratories, including gravimetric analysis, black carbon measurement, elemental analysis using X-ray fluorescence (XRF), and Positive Matrix Factorization (PMF) modelling for data analysis and source apportionment of pollutants.
